FEM/BDC key match and mileage reset with CGDI BMW

Autonumen.com shares the guide on BMW FEM/BDC key programming and mileage reset with CGDI BMW Prog MSV80.

Here suggest you to use full test platform to test. If you don’t use platform, you can only disassemble and put the device back to the car again and again, which will damage the car and chip.

Step 1: Read FEM/BDC 8 foot chip data

Open CGDI software and select FEM/BDC Key Match

It prompts “FEM/BDC needs to update the ECU program before key matching. Please ensure that the car battery has enough power. Please keep the device cable connected during the programming process. Do you want to continue?”

Then click “YES”

Note: The vehicle has no valid coding data and cannot backup. You can continue with further programming. After the completion of programming, you can use CGDI software to set the code. Do you want to continue?

Select the mode of read EEPROM

No suggest you to choose use programmer to read FEM/BDC 8 foot chip data. It’s difficult to remove the chip which has too much glue.

Please select the second mode:

Use EEPROM adapter to read FEM/BDC 8 foot chip data: Please remove FEM/BDC from the vehicle (FEM/BDC must be power off), and correctly connect the chip clip of adapter to 95128/95256 chip on FEM/BDC. Then click the next button.

Actual operation:

Unplug the power cable and connect to CGDI prog BMW

Use CGDI eight pin exempt disassembly adapter to read data

Then save the data

It prompts “Put the FEM/BDC back on the car (the chip clip must be removed from the chip) and click the “next” button”

Power off, plug the power back to the platform, the chip clip must be removed from the chip

Select the second mode to read FEM/BDC 8 pin data

What for Land Rover the 2017 year?

JLR DoIP VCI (original or china clone) running Pathfinder or SDD software
It’s verified to read and clear codes of Range Rover L405 2007. Worked good!

What is JLR DOIP VCI:

This is a unit compatible with Pathfinder / JLR SDD software and all JLR vehicles with new vehicle architectures (from Range Rover/Range Rover Sports (L405/L494) Year 2017 onwards) or allow the enhanced diagnostics that Pathfinder will offer the retailer. In addition to the 2017 vehicle line application, the DoIP VCI will be capable of interfacing with the 2014-2016 Multi-CAN architecture vehicle lines on the Pathfinder diagnostic system. Pre-2014 and vehicles not detailed here will continue to use the current diagnostic system and VCIs.

How to use Pathfinder software to read/clear fault codes:

JLR DoIP Pathfinder vs. JLR SDD software

Here, i’ll chip in words of “Goodbye JLR SDD and Hello Pathfinder”

What’s the difference between Pathfinder and SDD software?

1.The JLR Pathfinder software

(You must have a online account to work with it; Autonumen.com won’t offer it)

It is the only unit that will be compatible with the Pathfinder software and all JLR vehicles with the new vehicle architectures found in 2017 and newer vehicles (from the Range Rover/Range Rover Sport L405/L494). In addition to the 2017 and newer vehicles, the JLR DoIP VCI will also be capable of interfacing with 2014 through 2016 Multi-CAN architecture vehicles (see application list below).

2.The SDD software

(If you want to do programming, you must have an online account)

All 2014-2017 with no DOIP and earlier (2006 to 2014) land rover and Jaguar will still use the JLR SDD software.

Why we use JLR Pathfinder instead of SDD?

The reason for SDD being retired and Pathfinder being introduced is more because of the contract with Ford expiring, as the SDD is based on the Ford IDS, so JLR has to pay Ford to keep using it.

The major change to the cars themselves is the infotainment system, the Next Generation Infotainment (NGI) is an ethernet-based system, vs the older MOST fibre-optic infotainment i.e. the IAM2.1

So yeah, you could not (easily or economically) retrofit the NGI system into an IAM2.1 car, for example. The components and network are totally different.

But… the NGI has been in some JLR vehicles since 2016, and is supported by SDD. There will be a cutoff where new models are no longer supported by SDD and only by Pathfinder. But Pathfinder also works on older vehicles too, back to 2014MY (approximately).

What tool can be used with Pathfinder software?

The  JLR DoIP VCI interface! Both original and clone are okay.

It is the only unit that will be compatible with the Pathfinder Software and all JLR vehicles with the new vehicle architectures found in 2017 and newer vehicles (from the Range Rover/Range Rover Sport L405/L494). In addition to the 2017 and newer vehicles.

the DoIP VCI will also be capable of interfacing with 2014 through 2016 Multi-CAN architecture vehicles (see application list below). Vehicles 2014 and older vehicles not detailed here will continue to use the current diagnostic system and VCIs.
